SMALL STATE

Am Anfang stand die Idee, denn als Max, Chris und Andi ihre Band im Herbst 2000 in der Nähe von Saarbrücken gründeten, spielte keiner von ihnen ein Instrument. Doch alle Startprobleme waren schnell vergessen, als das erste Konzert 2002 in der Nähe von Saarbrücken stattfand. Zu dieser Zeit stieß auch Sascha zu den Jungs aus dem Saarland und machte die Formation komplett.

Nach einigen regionalen Konzerten war genug Geld eingespielt, um professionell ein paar Songs aufzunehmen. Unter dem Titel „More than friends ... but not gay!“ veröffentlichten die Newcomer 2003 in Eigenregie ihr Erstlingswerk. Diesem Tonträger war es auch zu verdanken, dass die Punkrocker überregionale Konzerte an Land zogen. So beispielsweise der Gig beim Bandwettbewerb für die "Deconstruction-Tour 2003".

2004 stand das Quartett wieder im Studio und spielte fleißig Songs ein. Da das Geld fehlte, blieben die Tracks unveröffentlicht - leider bis heute. Zum Trost teilte man sich bei Konzerten die Bühne erstmals mit etwas größeren Bands wie den "Peepshows" und erspielte sich regional eine treue Fan-Gemeinde.

Im April 2005 gingen „Small State“ erneut ins Studio und spielten in nur drei Tagen die 6-Song-Mini-CD "Aloha sunshine“ komplett ein. Einer dieser Songs überzeugte auch Titus-Mailorders und wurde auf "Titus Tunes - Best of Rookies 2005" in einer 60.000-Auflage für die Ewigkeit gebannt.

Knapp ein Jahr später wurde die Plattenfirma "Antstreet Records" bei einer Show auf den flotten Vierer aufmerksam und machte ihm ein Angebot, das man nicht ausschlagen konnte. Resultat: Die Band verbrachte den ganzen Dezember im Studio, um ihren ersten Longplayer aufzunehmen. Das silberne Scheibchen erschien im Frühjahr 2007 über „Antstreet Records“ in Deutschland und Italien und trägt den Titel "PIRATES IN STEREO“.

When Max, Chris, and Andi founded Small State in 2000, none of the boys even knew how to play an instrument. Nevertheless, they got what it takes: When they gave their first concert in 2002, no one would ever have guessed, that only two years earlier they started off with literally nothing but a dream. It was around that time as well, that Sascha joined the young band from the Saarland (Germany) – and made the line-up perfect.

After a couple of concerts (which they all gave in the vicinity of the city of Saarbrücken) they finally made enough dough to record some of their songs professionally. At last, in 2003, Small State was able to release their first EP “More than friends … but not gay!”, which was handmade in every respect. And what’s more: it earned them their first concert outside their home state - which was to be followed by many others. Amongst them the band contest for the “Deconstruction-Tour 2003”.

In 2004, the foursome worked in studio again, recording songs eagerly. But since back then they hadn’t any money, the songs couldn’t be published – sadly enough they still aren’t. As a sop to their pride, the boys lined up with better known bands such as Peepshows – and made themselves lots of new, loyal fans.

In April 2005, Small State went to studio again and recorded another six songs in minimum time. It took the band three days to finish their second EP “Aloha sunshine”. One of the songs must have won over someone’s heart at Titus-Mailorders: It made its way to the album “Titus Tunes – Best of Rookies 2005” – and now proudly presents the young band on each of the 60,000 pressings.

A year later, an employee of the label “Antstreet Records” saw the boys on stage – and made them an offer they couldn’t resist. The result: Small State went to studio yet again – and this time didn’t leave it for about a month. In 2007, the band’s first album “Pirates in Stereo” released. For starters in Germany and Italy only. But who knows, the world might follow soon …
